Nicole by OPI Scarlett Swatches & Review

Nicole-by-OPI-Scarlett-Swatches-ReviewWhile wearing Nicole by OPI Scarlett from the Selena Gomez Collection coming to stores in January 2013, I couldn’t help but think of Katniss from The Hunger Games.

In the same vein that Katniss is The Girl on Fire, this red nail polish comes to life and gives you a manicure that’s on fire!

However, I don’t think I did it justice. Mother Nature didn’t cooperate, so all the days I wore this, I was only able to take photos with my camera’s flash and in dim light.

Shimmery red-violet

Key Notes

Nicole by OPI Scarlett Review

Colour

In most lighting conditions, you’ll see a saturated red. But in certain lighting, you can sometimes see a pinkish flash. (I guess that’s what Nicole by OPI means when they called this a “red-violet”.)

Aside from the glitters in the Selena Gomez Collection, this is the shade that has a lot of life! Put this on, and your nails catch the light.

Finish

From afar, your nails might look like they’re a red metallic. But the finish is actually more of a metallic shimmer that’s a bit frosty. Some of the shimmer twinkles the same way that snow twinkles when the sunlight hits it.

Application & Formula

Nicole by OPI Scarlett has a terrific formula. No hassles at all. It’s easy to paint on, and it goes on smoothly. I only needed to use 2 coats to completely cover my nails, so it’s good in my book!

Pros

  • Lively red metallic shimmer
  • Applies smoothly & easily
Cons

  • There are lots of shimmery reds (and red nail polish in general) on the market, so it’s not 100% original (but that’s okay!)

Final Verdict: 8/10

This would make a lovely holiday manicure. It’s traditional and catches the light so much like a Christmas-tree ornament.

Would you wear this red? Have you thought about what you’re going to wear on your nails this holiday season?

These are the kind of shades I am a huge sucker for…magentas, fuchsias, then add a shimmer/glassfleck and/or another color glowing through like blue/purple and I am melting. I thought this one would be like a ton of others out there that I have many of already. Now reading your review I will take a closer look at this when it comes out. Maybe this is more red like the red-raspberry that is in one of the Skyfall shades I am nuts over. Lovely photos since I know most all bloggers say shades like this can be hard to capture.

      Hey beachgal!

You know, looking back now, I think maybe I should’ve described this polish as being red, but leaning strongly on magenta because of the pinkish flash. (If you like colours like OPI Wing It, you’ll like this one, too. Similar, but not the same. This one’s definitely more metallic.)

Aww…thanks! Yes, I had trouble photographing this one, and the natural light was so dim out, which makes it more challenging to get good shots. (I’ve been thinking about investing in a better light box, but…well, haha, I just spent a lot during the Sephora VIB sale, so I don’t think I can factor in a new set-up anytime soon! Maybe next year!)

      Hey Mystie!

It can look more pink…This red is more like a magenta type of red. I’ll need to edit this post to include this so that people don’t get confused and think it’s a straight-up red. There’s definitely pink in there.

Love this color!! I really like to wear sparkly, vibrant colors like this during the holidays :). Do you think you’ll wear this shade a lot during this holiday season?

      Hey Jessica!

The holidays are the best times to wear sparkly/glittery polishes, aren’t they? They just make you feel more festive!

I’ll probably wear this polish again, but I’m not sure if it’ll be during this holiday season. Haha, but that’s just because I have a lot of untried polishes, and I sometimes feel guilty if I keep wearing the same one. (The only exception is with China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy – I’ve worn that soooo many times and never feel guilty when I snub the untrieds in favour of Flip Flop Fantasy.) 😉

If I do wear it again this holiday season, it might be stamped over or layered under a glitter. Not sure yet!

This shades looks amazing on you Mary, and you are right your nails are on fire!
I love the sheen of pink in this one.

I do think about what to wear on my nails during the holidays… especially Peter’s work party. We don’t go out often, and Peter does talk to his work buddies (I’d love to be a fly on the wall during those convos) about my nail stuff… So I feel like my nails need to make a memorable appearance 😉 lol. No idea yet thought

      Hey Marta!

No pressure on your manicure, but it’s going to be amazing! 😉 You always hit it out of the park, and I bet Peter’s employees look forward to see what’s on your nails each year at the party. 🙂

Love this color. Been wearing it for 2 years and get lots of compliments on this color. Cannot find in stores, so went on-line to order. Trying to get 2 bottles ASAP. There is no other color out there that makes me feel as good as this color does. It goes with, orange, pink, red, blue, black, etc. It is a mixture of pink and red and orange (unless they changed it). Trying to purchase now. Oh, yes it goes well with my skin tones.
LOVE IT , LOVE IT, LOVE IT. DON’T STOP MAKING IT. OH ONE MORE THING IT DOES CATCH THE LIGHT AND THAT IS WHAT I LOVE. IT LOOKS LIKE IT HAS POWDERY GOLD SPOTS THAT REFLECT THE LIGHT. DUST GOLD.

      Hey Gail!

When you find the shade that makes your heart (and nails) sing, that’s one of the best feelings in the world, isn’t it? 🙂 SO HAPPY that you found a polish that brings you such joy. It’s the little things in life that sometimes make our tough days a little easier.
