Considering how much I gush about green nail polish on here, I bet that most of you don’t know that I used to be a huge purple fanatic!
Yup, that’s right! When I first started collecting nail polish more seriously in the fall of 2008, I bought purple after purple. Eventually, I hit a glass ceiling and decided to try something new. That’s when I branched out into greens, which was exciting for me.
Even though it wasn’t that long ago, greens weren’t as popular back then as they are today. (I think this really speaks volumes about women expressing themselves in novel, untraditional ways.)
When I wore Nicole by OPI Purple Yourself Together (a Shoppers Drug Mart exclusive colour), my heart raced like Usain Bolt, and I was taken right back to the early days when my lacquer addiction just began! 😀 Great nostalgia!

Nicole by OPI Purple Yourself Together Review
Colour
If I could rename this polish, I would call it Pixie Pee! It’s seriously magic in a bottle, and since there are soooo many purples polishes on the market, it now takes a lot for me to be impressed. Uh, yeah, I turned myself into a purple-polish snob! 😉
Nicole by OPI Purple Yourself Together reminds me of a cartoon purple grape that adds the punch of colour I usually crave.
Finish
It’s the finish that really makes me want to call this polish Pixie Pee. It has golden shimmer that lights up and dances on your nail like fire!
You know how snow twinkles in the sun? The shimmer in this polish twinkles like that on your nail, and because the gold is pretty strong, there’s a big contrast between it and the purple, so the effect is very dramatic…intoxicating, really!
Application & Formula
Most of the purple polishes I own are quite pigmented, but this one was sheerer than I expected. I used 3 coats, and it needed every single one of those coats.
Nicole by OPI Purple Yourself Together is also very thin, so consider applying a little extra onto the tips of your nails. Try to wait longer than usual in between coats, too. I suggest doing all this because the formula is so thin that if you don’t, I think this polish is more prone to shrinkage, which will look like early tip wear.

Final Verdict: 10/10
Despite the fact that the formula left something to be desired, I gave Purple Yourself Together a perfect score because I think the superb colour is worth the extra effort.
It’s such a dreamy and whimsical colour that I fell in love with it from the second I put it on. And for the 3 or so days that I wore it, I didn’t get tired of it. That’s when I know I love a polish! 🙂
What colour are you into now? Did you get into nail polish liking a particular colour and then you changed your preference later on?
Edit: I’m so excited that Nicole by OPI retweeted this post to their followers! 😀
This is sooooo pretty!!!! I love the shimmer! My favorite purple is OPI Grape… Set… Match…!
Hey maddy!
Glad you like it, too. Definitely one of the prettier purples out there. 🙂
I’m wearing G,S,M as part of my Valentine’s look right now, it’s definitely a great puprle.
Maddy, I hope you can head over to my blog and check it out, I did a post regarding recreating Across the Universe just recently.

I checked out your blog and it’s amazing. I read your Across the Universe post and Tips and Tricks Tuesday post and both posts include great tips. I share quite a few bottles with my friends and we usually pitch in to buy new nail polish.
I’m so jealous that I don’t have access to this beauty :(. It’s soooo gorgeous!!
I totally agree with you regarding being a polish snob, lol. I’m the same way when checking out polishes these days.

Hey MariJo!
Hehe, well, we have to be snobs. If we fell for everything, imagine what a dent we’d put in our bank accounts! Hahaha…scary when you think about it. 😛
LOL! So true.

What a lovely shade! It reminds me of Sephora by OPI’s “Hell to The No” from the Glee collection. How would you say they compare?
And I’m a green polish freak but purple is my runner up obsession:)
Hey Robyn!
Oh, I haven’t seen that one, but “Hell to the No” is a hilarious name! 😛 I may be heading to Sephora later today, so I’ll try to see if they have it in stock. If I can find it in person, I’ll reply again to your comment to say how they compare in the bottle. If I can’t find it in person, I’ll have to look at online swatches to compare. I’ll get back to you, though. 🙂
I initially bought Hell to the No just for the name but it turned out to be gorgeous:-)
From comparing online swatches it looks to me that maybe Purple Yourself is a slightly deeper purple shade? They both have that nice gold shimmer though. By the way…love your site! These were my first comments; I’m usually more of a lurker haha.
Gorgeous puple! I’m a complete purple freak. I used to buy purple and more and more purple, then I moved onto silvers and gunmetals, and now I’m just all over the place. I still have a soft spot for purple though (and gunmetal), but I have to make myself step back when I naturally go for that purple and make a concious decision to go for a different color.
Hey Frosso!
Great nail minds think alike. 😉 Purples (and greens) scream out to me, but I also try to listen to what the other polishes are saying. It’s normal to hear bottles of nail polish talk, right? Right? Anyone? Okay…fine then. 😛
This is gorgeous! In all honesty, I think it’s the gold shimmer that does it for me. 😀 This is easily going on the “must find” list. It does remind me of a darker Zoya Zara. Or a bluer Orly Fantasea. I die when I see these kinds of purples. So. Seriousy. Awesome.

Hey Carmela!
Definitely. Without the gold shimmer, I think this colour would look like any other purple out there. Purple and gold look so magical and royal together – hard combo to pass up. 😉
Add me to the club of people who adore purple polish. I’ve recently swatched all my colors, and it’s the only one I have two full polish wheels of (20 colors each), plus 4 more colors on the third wheel! (Blue and green also have more than one wheel’s worth of colors, as well.)
I really like the gold glimmer in

oops, hit the enter button too soon.
I love the gold glimmer in this NOPI one, and how it’s subtle and you would just catch flashes of it. It seems totally worth any extra trouble.

No problem – it happens sometimes. 🙂
Hey another Cristina!
Wow, yes, I can tell you’re a fan of purple! 😉 It’s just so flattering on many people!
And that’s a lot of work you did swatching all your colours. Hope you had fun!
Yikes! This made my tummy clench…not in that ick sort of way, but kinda like the excited butterflies that I get just standing in front of the polish racks at Sally’s.
It’s SO pretty!
Hey karen!
Hahaha, okay, that’s good. I had the bucket ready for you just in case, though. 😛
And I know what you mean. Sometimes I feel like I’m stunned just standing in front of the rainbow of polishes so neatly lined up. And when I walk out of Sally Beauty Supply without one, I need to check my temperature!
aaah… I LOVE purple… and this one looks like a winner!! looks gorgeous on you!!
Gosia recently posted: Essie Showstopper + GR8 — last day of V-Day Challenge
Hey Gosia!
Thank you! This kind of purple with the shimmer would look killer on anybody. I think that even if some people normally wear neutrals, they could surprise themselves (and treat themselves!) to some colour – this would be a lovely choice!
Gorgeous! This kinda of looks like Dutch ‘Ya Just Love OPI
lacquerloon recently posted: Two New Essie Greens
Hey lacquerloon!
I haven’t seen Dutch ‘Ya Just Love OPI in person, but it’s good to know that there’s another alternative in case someone can’t find this one. 🙂
I have both this and Dutch ‘Ya Just Love OPI and this is a lot lighter purple and has more gold in it. They’re both really pretty and I would say you need both if you love purple (:
I see! 🙂 Thanks for the great comparison. They both do sound equally gorgeous!
Wow… this reminds me of Zoya Tru… just with a coppery shimmer instead of red… Such a pretty shade!

Hey Sarah!
Very interesting observation! 🙂
Hey there purple polish snob! Just kidding. 🙂 I, too, think this is a great purple polish. I really like the golden shimmer. There are so many of these polishes with subtle but beautiful shimmer out right now (Gouda Gouda Two Shoes comes to mind, also Ulta Lav-ish) and I like it!! It just adds a little something different to the polish and takes a pretty but unremarkable creme and really makes it into something special.

Hey Nicole M!
What did you say? Sorry, but I had my purple-polish-snob nose in the air, so I was distracted. 😉 Hahaha!
I agree – it’s the golden shimmer that adds that extra personality to a pretty purple. When it catches the light, it’s like the gold shimmer provides an extra treat! 🙂
First of all, I love your blog! I’ve been stalking your posts for a couple of months now.You.make.all.nail.polishes.look.so.damn.good. Your nails are beautiful! When I saw this post the first time I was like, “I NEED THIS NAIL POLISH” I too enjoy green and purple nail polish! Those are two of my favourites and the dominant colours in my collection. I wore OPI it’s my year for a whole month without getting sick. I’m still not sick of it. This colour is a brighter version and less sparkly! How could I not? Love this! thank you for showcasing this nail polish!
ps: It’s made one of my favourite nail polishes, despite it being very watery like you said, it took me two coats and this varnish dries so quick! LOVE.
Hey gab!
Thank you very much for stalking me…hahahaha! 😉 Seriously, I’m glad that you’ve been coming back time and again to visit my blog. Means a lot!
Yay for another green and purple polish fan! 🙂 The world can never have enough, right?
Nicole by OPI is going to be the death of me, what with they’re putting out polishes exclusive to stores that don’t exist where I am… first it was the CVS line and now this one… Purple Yourself is gorgeous!
Hey Leisel!
Who knows? Maybe over time, they’ll broaden the availability. Sometimes they do that. But, in the meantime, maybe you can try layering a purple polish with a gold-shimmery top coat? It’s not the same, but sometimes you can squash lemmings with something along the same lines.
Mary… Guess what? I just saw a press release saying that Nicole by OPI was releasing some exclusive polishes for Target, and it was this same group, except for Thank You Cherry Much (don’t know why they left that one off, but at least I should be able to get ahold of Purple Yourself Together!
I mean I Love You Cherry Much.
Awesome! 🙂 I’m so happy that you’ll be able to get it! Purple Yourself Together is amazing!
I love…mean LOVE Purple! Favorite color. Nice blog!
Hey Robbie!
Purple used to be my absolute favourite colour for years, especially when it came to nail polish. But then green entered my life, we had an affair, and then I had to have an open relationship with purple. 😉 Haha! Green is lust and purple is love for me. 😛
Glad that you’ve been enjoying Swatch And Learn! 😀 Thanks for leaving a comment!
