Nicole by OPI Kim-pletely in Love Swatches & Review

Sunlight Nicole by OPI Kim-pletely in Love Swatches & ReviewBy now you’ve probably heard all about Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries’ divorce.

Whenever I hear about a divorce, I always feel sad, even if the split is for the best. I guess it’s because I have a fairytale perception of marriage being a one-time and lasting, loving bond, even though in reality, the divorce rates are alarmingly high.

My nails were stained a bright magenta, so when I decided to wear Nicole by OPI Kim-pletely in Love, unfortunately it made the manicure look shoddy and like I have bloody cuticles!

Still, I’m sharing these swatches with you anyway because if you can look past the stained nails peeking through, you’ll still be able to see what Kim-pletely in Love looks like.

A woman (who worked at the candy shop I bought a few things from) actually complimented me on this colour!

You know that I’m not really a pink-polish wearer. It’s not necessarily because I don’t like the colour. It’s because most pinks make my nails look dirty or they’re too close to the colour of my skin.

Here you can see the pretty blue micro-shimmer. This polish also has pink micro-shimmer, but that was tough to capture.

Pink

Key Notes

Nicole by OPI Kim-pletely in Love Review

Colour

Kim-pletely in Love is a very soft pale pink that I can best describe as marshmallowy. While I don’t think it looks so hot on me, I think it would look incredible on someone whose skin tone is either lighter or richer than mine. For me, I think it would be a cute polish for my toenails, so that’s what I’ll use it for from now on.

That being said, now I’m thinking that this could be a great base for a lot of Valentine’s Day nail-art designs because it’s light, which will help darker stamping show up.

What makes this pink slightly different is the blue and pink micro-shimmer. On the nail, it’s visible, but it isn’t very obvious. You’ll mainly notice it when the sun hits your nails. In most lighting, it tends to look more like a creme polish than a micro-shimmer polish.

Finish

This is a sheer micro-shimmer polish.

Application & Formula

The formula is sheer, smooth, and easy to work with. Even though I wore 3 coats, I could still see some visible nail line. With additional coats, you can build up opacity, but if you want to reduce the number of coats, I suggest slicking on a base pink colour first and then layering over it with Kim-pletely in Love.

Pros

  • Has a marshmallowy look
  • Contains blue & pink microshimmer to add some depth
  • Formula is smooth & easy to work with
Cons

  • Sheer (but buildable coverage)

Final Verdict: 6.5/10

This is a sweet pale pink that’s super girlie with blue and pink micro-shimmer. While I didn’t fall ‘kim-pletely in love’ with this, I will be wearing it again, but on my toenails since I think it would look better there.

What do you think of this pink polish? Is the micro-shimmer enough to make this pink unique? Or do you feel like this has been done before?

It really is a nice pale pink. Anyways lighter colours don’t always go well with my skintone so I’m not sure if i’ll be getting this. The glitter adds a nice sparkle but it’s not so noticeable. I have seen many other nail polishes like this from different brands that are cheaper. The review was awesome as always!:)

      Hey maddy!

Oh, you’re so welcome. Glad this review was helpful! 😀

I’m still on the hunt to find my perfect pink. This was cute, but I think I prefer more contrast with my skin tone.

      Hey Pauline!

Yes, that would be perfect for your sister – it’d be like her own personalized polish, and who wouldn’t love that? 🙂

      Hey PinkGlitter!

I think the polish I was wearing before just had a LOT of dye in it. I did some nail art on top of it and even when I put eyes on it, the whites of the eyes got stained pink! That’s when I knew that my nails would surely be stained, but it was too late to remove the polish. The damage was already done. Good thing that my nails grow out fairly quickly and that I don’t really go out with bare nails.

      Ohh, dark green is fabulous!

Love this pink!! I feel like the shimmer makes it more unique–without it this polish would be just another pink creme. Thank you for still swatching pinks even though you’re not a pink fan yourself–I’m sure other pink polish fans appreciate it as much as me!

      Hey Jessica!

I agree – the shimmer gives it a special touch, especially because it’s two different colours of shimmer, too.

You’re welcome! 🙂 Glad you liked this pink! It’s not that I hate pinks. They’re just hard for me to pull off. Usually the deep, berry-toned ones look best on me, but I really want to find one that’s a pale, princessy-type of pink that works for me.

Funny, this reminds me of Sheer Fun also from Nicole by OPI except that one had rose gold shimmer instead of blue. Come to think of it, it was probably what I was wearing when I got married! The blue shimmer in Kim-pletely would probably work for “something blue” if you go by it. 😉 I think it actually looks good on you!

I’m not sold on this though. The blue shimmer is nice, but if I had CND Ice Blue Shimmer, I could probably get a similar look with another pale pink. Plus, the divorce taints it for me too, so definitely a no for me. I agree with you that vows are binding along with the whole “what God hath joined, let not man take asunder”. But that’s just me. 🙂

      Hey Carmela!

I can’t remember what Sheer Fun looks like, but it sounds pretty. I often like pink with gold shimmer, but especially in lip glosses – seems to make the pink more wearable for me.

I very occasionally wear light pink, but will probably pass on this one. I agree with you that divorce is never pleasant, and get really upset with people who love to make fun of those who are divorcing. However, I am also really tired of the media’s obsession with the private lives of stars. I know they are public figures, but I really don’t need to hear the gory details.

    Rant over. 🙂

And celebrities often use the media to their advantage to take stabs at their ex-lovers and/or start rumours. Really childish. It’s the fame game…

I just wanted to tell you that I really enjoy reading your blog! I have oval-shaped nails and when I watch your swatches it’s easy for me to imagine how the specific polish will look om me. Your pictures are always great and you seem to have a wonderful sense of humor! Keep up the good work! 🙂

      Hey Josefin!

Thank you for leaving that sweet comment! 😀 And yay for someone who has oval-shaped nails! It’s really not as common, it seems. I always see pictures of square or squoval nails, which I think are really pretty, but the shape doesn’t work on me.

I’m so happy to hear that you enjoy my photos! 🙂 I tend to take a lot and then sift through them to find the ones that are better.

Thanks so much for your support and encouragement – it means a lot to me! 😀

Unfortunately, Kim Kardashian’s marriage only lasted 72 hours, and that’s probably longer than I’d wear this polish. I like the glitter, but like you said, I, too, like a little more contrast between my skin and nails (unless I’m going for a mannequin hands look). A LOT of the other colors in the Nicole by OPI Kardashian collection are awesome though, and I’d like to get at least a several of them. 🙂

      Hey Nicole!

Oh, I thought her marriage lasted 72 days, not hours. Either way, it’s really too bad that it ended so soon.

Do you know what other Kardashian Kolors Collection colours you’re planning to get?

      Hey Emily!

Good idea – matte top coats tend to bring out glitter more. I may try that when I wear this on my toes next time.

Where do I start… The colour is sooo pretty… I do tend to like these types of pinks as palate cleansers and the shimmer in this one definitely sets it apart from other pinks IMO 😀 That said, these bottle types give me the kreeps… Not only do I not like the shape of these bottles, I think it is counter user friendly (the bottom is the widest… so that is where the polish will all pool (beyond the reach of the brush) towards the end of the bottle use 🙁

I DO think this shade looks great on you! Maybe with some stamping over it!!!! Even brown stamping or black… make it kind of henna-ish 😉

Marriage… I agree with you (and to this day hold that marriage is a gift worth working on and should be a one time thing – no returns)… I know that there are awful situations out there that warrant a divorce, but I also feel that nowadays people throw in the towel too easily, and don’t want to put in that effort to sustain a marriage. I’ve been married for over 6 years now (to my high school sweetheart) and I will vow that marriages are worth fighting for… 😀 Call me idealistic (or lucky)… I will agree to both 😉

      Hey Marta!

Oh, I never even thought about that when it comes to the bottle design. You’re totally right – it leaves most on the bottom where it’s harder to reach! I think they just made it like that to differentiate their bottles from others, but I do think a redesign would do wonders for their brand.

I’m SO HAPPY for you that you’ve been married for more than 6 years…and to your high-school sweetheart! (That’s really romantic! As long as I know that true love still flourishes in the world, I can sleep at night.)
