Milani 3D Review & Swatches

Usually I don’t like wearing gold nail polish because it picks up the yellow undertone in my skin. However, Milani 3D is a rich gold color that I think looks great. It’s not super yellow, and it doesn’t have a deep brown hue to it.

While I like the base gold shade, I’m thoroughly disappointed with the Milani 3D nail color. I feel like Milani may have made a mistake and included this color in the wrong collection! It doesn’t look like it belongs in the 3D Holographic set at all, as those two terms wouldn’t be what I’d use to describe this.

Milani 3D Holographic 3D Review

This nail polish is called 3D. For some reason, I thought it would be gem of the set, seeing as it mimics the collection’s name. Nope. Milani 3D Holographic 3D barely has any special effects to it!

Previously I reviewed Milani HD and complained that I had to squint really hard to see the holo. Compared to 3D, the silver HD color has soooo much more interest. With Milani Holographic 3D, even if you squint, you can’t really see the depth to it.

Just as the rest of the collection, Milani 3D nail lacquer features Holographic Image Technology. It promises that you can see many colors traveling across the nail. Don’t expect that from 3D. I mostly see a blue reflection. Very rarely do I see a little bit of red, but that’s basically it. 🙁

Without the holo effect, Milani 3D nail polish just looks like a glittery gold color… which isn’t a bad thing. It’s actually a pretty glittery gold shade. It’s just not what I was expecting at all.

The formula for 3D by Milani feels a little bit thicker than the rest. But don’t worry – it’s still easy to apply. It still offers an even finish with a glossy-glass shine. Don’t have anything to complain about that. Also, it seems less sheer. You might be able to get away with just 2 coats. I wore 3 anyway just to give a fair comparison to the rest.

    Pros
  • Affordable
  • Great wear
  • Dries quickly
  • Free of toluene, formaldehyde, DBP
    Cons

  • Not a true holo; can hardly see effect

Final Verdict: 5.9/10

I had a strong start with this collection. Then HD and 3D both are disappointing; neither of which I’ll purchase again if I run out. The next and last polish from this collection is Cyberspace – it hope it fares better!

What do you think? Even though it’s not a true holo, still like it because it’s a pretty gold? Do tell!

      Hi Alaeis (cool name)!

I do like the base gold color, but I had to bust Milani 3D because it was slightly misleading for me. It doesn’t have the holo effect I was expecting!
