MAC RiRi Woo Lipstick Swatches, Review & Pictures

MAC RiRi Woo Lipstick Swatches, Review & PicturesFirst of all, I’d like to wish my fellow Canadians a very HAPPY CANADA DAY! I hope that you’re spending time with your family and/or friends. Enjoy the long weekend!

Can’t say that I’m a Rihanna fan (even though I find a couple of her songs catchy), but when MAC RiRi Woo Lipstick was first released, I knew that I had to get it.

I’m experimenting more with lip colour, and red is a shade that really makes my complexion look awake and healthy.

You’ll remember that MAC Ronnie Red Lipstick reached Holy Grail status for me. Ever since then, I’ve been trying to find more reds to add to my collection.

MAC RiRi Woo Lipstick from the RiRi Hearts MAC Collection is a winner! I’ve seen it on people of all different races, and it looks so flattering!

This is a beautiful, bright red lipstick that I love wearing so much! When it was released again recently along with shades Heaux and RiRi Boy, I decided to get a back-up because it’s so easy to burn through red lipstick.

Funny how I used to be a sheer-lipgloss lover. Now I’m obsessed with matte statement lipsticks!

Yeah, part of my lipstick was slightly damaged where the signature is. That’s okay – it was very minor. And I have a back-up anyway. 🙂

MAC RiRi Woo Lipstick Review

Colour

MAC RiRi Woo Lipstick is a really bright, classic red that makes such a huge statement. I’m head over heels in love with it because I can literally just be wearing the most casual, boring outfit like a black t-shirt and jeans, but with this red, it makes me look put-together!

This is a vibrant red that seems to make teeth look whiter and the complexion healthier. Plus I’ve seen it on all different skin tones, and it looks killer on everyone, it seems! Gotta love a universally flattering red, right? Right!

You’ll remember that I was in love and lust with MAC Ronnie Red Lipstick. Well, I still am. MAC RiRi Woo Lipstick is a different red, so you can fully justify owning both. This one seems brighter, and it doesn’t have the tinge of pink that Ronnie Red does.

The colour is more accurate in my flash photos, but the finish is more accurate in my natural-light photos.

Finish

It has what MAC calls a Retro Matte finish. I’ve never tried any of their lipsticks with this formula, so I was curious.

Sometimes I get a little nervous to try out a matte lipstick since some are really dry. Well, I made sure to prep my lips prior to wearing RiRi Woo.

At night, before I went to bed, I applied my favourite lip balm. In the morning, I used it again while I was putting on my eye liner and while doing my hair. By then, the lip balm had absorbed well, and I blotted my lips with a tissue paper prior to applying the lipstick.

Application & Formula

Surprisingly, the Retro Matte finish of MAC RiRi Woo didn’t feel dry going on. I had no trouble gliding it onto my lips, but, yes, if you look along the edges, you can see that it’s not completely smooth. It has a slight drag, but it’s nothing really bad.

In my photos, my lips are blown up larger than life. In person, you couldn’t really see the jagged edges. But, if it really bothers you and you want it to be more polished, just use a red lip liner.

I, however, was happy with how it looked right out of the tube. I didn’t feel the need to perfect the edges.

The longevity of MAC RiRi Woo Lipstick is amazing. Seriously! I didn’t have to reapply at all while wearing it for about 6+ hours. This is definitely my kind of lipstick because I’m not the type of person who likes to reapply makeup throughout the day. I prefer to just put it on in the morning and have it last for the whole day (or at least the majority of the day).

If your lips are dry and chapped, I wouldn’t recommend wearing this lipstick because after wearing it for hours, I noticed that my lips began to feel slightly dry. So, if you start off with dry lips, they might feel tight and uncomfortable later on. (You could always just put a little lip balm on if that happens.)

Scent

Like all MAC lipsticks, RiRi Woo has that awesome vanilla cake batter scent that I adore! The fragrance is part of the reason why I love MAC lipsticks so much. It’s sweet, but not cloying. And you pretty much will only notice it upon application. Shortly after, it goes away.

Limited Edition & Online Exclusive

RiRi Woo by MAC is a limited-edition and online-exclusive shade, so snatch it up if you like it, or you may miss out.

Rihanna’s signature is engraved right on the lipstick, so if you’re a fan of hers, this would be a great collector’s item.

Pros

  • Bright red that wakes up the complexion
  • Super long-wearing
  • Vanilla cake batter scent
  • Rihanna’s signature is engraved on the lipstick (great collectible)
Cons

  • Limited edition (Once it’s gone, it could be gone for good)
  • Can feel a little dry after you wear it for a few hours

Final Verdict: 9.5/10

I definitely will be adding RiRi Woo by MAC into my lipstick rotation! It’s great for those days when you need to boost your spirits. You don’t need to wear heels or dress up. You can wear this with just something simple like black eye liner, and you have a classic look that also seems edgy. Love it!

What’s the best red lipstick you own? What kinds of red lipsticks look best on you? Is there a celebrity you hope MAC will collaborate with? (For me, it’s Lana Del Rey!)

That looks great on you. I was lusting after M.A.C. Ruby Woo, but this red has my eye too. I don’t think I need them both. I missed out on the Archie Girls collections and really wanted that Veronica “Ronnie Red” lipstick.

      Hey Cindi!

Definitely you don’t need both. I’ve seen swatches, and most of the comparisons looked really similar. If there was any difference, it was so minor, I don’t think someone would be justified owning both (unless they’re a Rihanna fan). 🙂

Aww, sorry to hear that you missed out on the Archie Girls Collection – I went nuts with that one. Had I known that Ronnie Red would’ve been my Holy Grail red, I would’ve bought a back-up.

Thank you – I feel like a million bucks when I wear this! 🙂 There’s something so glamourous about it. I feel very privileged to have gotten hold of it.

I have to be really careful when I apply lipstick, because I have a very defined edge to my lips, but if I go all the way up to the edge with my lipstick I look like a painted clown! I don’t have especially full lips, but the shape of them means I have to be a little creative with application 🙂 Still, for a color like this it could be worth the risk! I wish there were a way to seal in lipstick without it feeling gross. Like a topcoat for your mouth!

Mac is on the expensive side , but maybe this one is worth a shot 🙂 I was going to say it’s expensive here, but I just looked it up- it looks like it’s actually NOT jacked up due to import, the prices are pretty much the same here as they are online. I’m rather surprised!

      Hey Fedoraharp!

That’s interesting you should mention a top coat because I remember a few years ago, there was a clear gloss you could put on top that was supposed to act like a sealant.

Although MAC is pricey, I’m just so addicted to them. The awesome vanilla-cake batter scent is so yummy! And they truly have every single shade that you could ever want. 😉

      Hey Raina!

When the shade is matte, the colour stands out so much more (as though it’s intensified somehow). I really recommend you try this. It seems to suit everyone’s complexion. Finally there’s a universal red lipstick! 🙂

Like the shade with flash, A bit bright for me but is a great matte, really matte and there they did honor their claim.

Definitely it’s one of the brighter reds. I love how it makes teeth look brighter and the complexion just looks healthier.

I love the color, but I just don’t wear lipstick that often.

But I’m still sad that I missed out Macs Runaway Red twice *sigh*
It appeard to be the perfect red for me. Hope it’ll come back some day.

    Have a nice day

      Hey ISA VAL!

It’s such a great shade of red, but you have to make sure your lips are in good condition because the formula can be drying if you wear it on a day-to-day basis.

      Hey Dunja!

It is a great, vibrant red to wear, especially around the holidays. I still wear it a lot now, and it lasts through eating. It’s one of my all-time favourite lipsticks – easily!

      Hey Alicia!

Although this was a limited-edition colour, I heard that MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick is pretty similar. Even the finish is the same, and that one’s permanent. Hope you enjoy it! It’s one of my all-time favourites!
