China Glaze Shocking Pink Swatches & Review

China Glaze Shocking Pink Swatches & ReviewYou’re seeing way more pink nail polish on Swatch And Learn than ever before – it’s a record!

Although my true love is purple and my true lust is green, neon pink nail polish is what makes me weak in the knees like SWV. And as we’re approaching the summer, I crave neons like a juicy, grilled steak.

China Glaze Shocking Pink is a polish I recently purchased, but it’s an old colour. If you don’t already have a neon-pink polish, I highly recommend this one.

When I wore this manicure last week, a bunch of people at work were asking me about the colour. 🙂 This is certainly a shade that attracts a lot of attention.

China Glaze Shocking Pink Review

Colour

Shocking Pink by China Glaze is a neon bubblegum pink that I feel would look good on a lot of different skin tones. Although I often have trouble pulling off pinks, I felt like this one was flattering.

It’s bright, girly, and happy! 🙂

You’ll also be happy to know that this isn’t a dupe for China Glaze Pool Party or China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy. So even if you own those lovely polishes, you can justify purchasing this one.

Shocking Pink is more of a light pink than the reddish-pink Pool Party. And Shocking Pink is a pure pink, unlike the coral-pink Flip Flop Fantasy.

Finish

This is a neon creme polish, so the finish is slightly matte. I strongly urge you to use a glossy top coat to bring out the true beauty of this polish.

The interesting thing about shocking pink is that while it doesn’t dry to a glossy finish, it isn’t as matte as most other neon polishes I’ve tried.

Application & Formula

The formula of Shocking Pink by China Glaze was wonderful! Normally you have to build up neons, but this one had a very opaque formula. With just 2 coats, I had full opacity. And the formula wasn’t thin. It was very easy to control, too.

Pros

  • Truly is a bright neon pink & very shocking
  • Fun colour to wear in the summer
  • Very opaque for a neon polish!
Cons

  • Dries slightly matte (Requires a top coat for a glossy finish)

Final Verdict: 10/10

Other than a streaky, sheer yellow one I tried, all the neon nail polishes I’ve worn have always been huge hits with me. There’s just something so fun about wearing a lacquer that’s so punchy.

What is the flashiest nail polish you own? Have you come across any non-streaky neon-yellow polishes? How’s your Monday going?

I really wish that I liked pink. I tried again just this week with Flashbulb Fuchsia. Still don’t like pinks. And this neon looks so pretty! Oh well. I’ll just keep staring at my pinks in their bottles. *sob*

It makes me so sad you don’t like pinks…and you even mentioned what I think of as a non pink-pink – because it’s really in the magenta family – Flashbulb Fuchsia – one of my all time favs. It’s amazing on toes.

Oh yeah, it would be cute on toes! (I need to paint my toes with neon polish soon. Haha, no toe swatches from me on here. Don’t worry!) 😛

      Hey Nail Nut!

I can’t remember if I ever asked you about China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy. It’s a neon coral pink. I know a lot of people who dislike pinks (me included), but still fell hard for that one. Did you try it? Perhaps it’ll change your mind. If not, well, there are always fantastic neon greens! 😉

I really like the neon yellow from the Spoiled line
(CVS Exclusive) called “Did I Dye It Too Blonde?” and the Nina Ultra Pro “Solar Flare”. They are both pretty sheer but not streaky in the least. I have gotten really good results putting both using Pure Ice “Platinum” as a base color. Platinum works well since it is a metallic white and it really makes the neon polishes glow.

        Hey Heidi!

Haha, “Did I Dye It Too Blond?” is such a funny name for the neon yellow!

Good tip about using Platinum beneath neon polishes, too. 🙂

      Hey Iris!

Give it time. 🙂 Hopefully someday soon, a company will perfect the yellow formula! We really do need a good neon yellow.

I love neon pinks! I saw this one in store but couldn’t justify buying it as I already have so many neon pinks from Color Club (Poptastic, Modern Pink…) but your swatches are so gorgeous they’re making me rethink that! Grrr!

      Hey MC!

Haha, I’m obsessed with neons, so now I’m thinking about running out to get those Color Club ones you mentioned. 😀 Guess we’re enabling each other…hehe! That’s the spirit! (It’s all your fault!) 😛

That song’s so good, isn’t it? Definitely my favourite SWV song, and when I hear it, it takes me back! Good days!

The sound is very pure. I think that’s why I like it so much – reminds me of innocent days when I was little. 🙂

      Hey Kelly!

Yup – I was shocked at the coverage when I applied it. I was expecting to paint 3 coats! (Then again, I tend to use medium coats, not thin coats.)

Two coats, no streaks and only semi-matte? Definitely a must-have! It looks amazing with your skintone, too. Will be a great color for summer. 😀

      Hey karen!

Yes, with 2 medium coats, it was pretty amazing how much coverage it provided. The formula on this is better than a lot of the neons in the China Glaze Poolside Collection (even though I love a lot of those colours).

I adore this shade – have it – also out of that collection have Flying Dragon (both shades – the purple and the original magenta), & last but hope not least, amazing Blue Sparrow!

      Hey beachgal!

Blue Sparrow is probably my favourite blue polish ever. And Flying Dragon is awesome. (I only have the original version, which I thought was purpler than the newer one which is pinker.)

Yup – the ‘good ole days’ when things were carefree. Wait a minute – I sound like a parent! 😛

I hear that a lot of people like Kiss Me On My Tulips. 🙂 And what a cute name to boot!

I think “Pink Voltage” is my most vibrant shade. I think China Glaze makes the best NEONS ever!!! yes, they apply a bit streaky but sooo worth all the effort! 😀
You truly rock neons well! And I still swoon (and visit.. yes, I come here to stalk and re-visit) your neon skittle manicure! Love it!
You’re right, Neons force you to have a good mood 😀
    Lovely swatches !

      Hey Marta!

That’s another neon on my list…as well as all the new Essie neon polishes I tweeted about just tonight. 😉

YES, China Glaze is a pro at neons, but particularly their Poolside Collection. (I think I gush about that at every opportunity. Haha, China Glaze ought to pay me. :P)

Aww, thanks! But I really think that EVERYONE can rock neons. The shades are so bright that it seems like it suits all skin tones. It’s just a matter of if the person is ‘brave’ enough to wear something so bold and attention-grabbing.

I would love to see a neon skittle manicure on ChitChat Nails! 😉

Okay, I need this. I might be stoned for saying this but this is exactly what I thought Flip Flop Fantasy would be. *takes cover* The warmer leaning coral of Flip Flop Fantasy doesn’t really work that well with me so this cooler toned neon pink might just do the trick! 🙂

Nah, I wouldn’t let anyone stone my good friend! 😀

Really? I’ve never heard of Flip Flop Fantasy not being flattering on someone. That boggles my mind! *Gasp* Haha, I’m so attached to my bottle – there’s already a sizeable dent in the product from the number of times I’ve worn it.

Oh, I’ve never tried it as a pedicure, only as a manicure. Try it on your fingernails! It’ll totally change your mind (hopefully)! 😉 Honestly, Flip Flop Fantasy is so amazing, I want to get a back-up bottle since there’s a dent in it already.
